Can’t I just use our general dentist for Invisalign treatment?
We have come to realize that most people do not understand the difference between and an Orthodontist and a general dentist. The difference is .......education and experience. The orthodontic specialist has 2-3 more years at the university specifically studing diagnosis and methods of moving teeth. Many general dentists attempt to do orthodontic treatment with Braces or Invisalign after taking a few weekend or night courses. The problem is that they do not have the education, experience and knowledge required to diagnose and plan treatment correctly. Understanding and avoiding possible complications and offering the best treatment options is so important.
The orthodontist is far more likely to successfully correct an orthodontic issue than the general dentist because the specialist has accumulated vast knowledge and experience by practice orthodontics and only orthodontics everyday while the general dentist has minimal experience in moving teeth correctly and safely.
How does Invisalign work?
Dr. Newhart does all your orthodontics on the computer before you begin your orthodontic treatment. He moves each tooth into the perfect position with the perfect speed. This ensures that your teeth move safely and efficiently. Each Invisalign aligner is worn for about two weeks. As each aligner is replaced with the next in the series, your teeth gradually will move week by week until they have straightened into the final virtual. You'll visit our office about once every twelve weeks for a check-up to ensure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages between 3 and 16 months.
Does Experience Matter with the Invisalign or do computers do all the work?
This question exposes one of the largest misconceptions common among the public. The public often does not understand the difference between an orthodontist and a general dentist. Orthodontists are specialists in moving teeth whether the tooth movement is with braces or Invisalign. As people are discovering little by little, Experience Matters with Invisalign. Skill and experience are hugely important. It is not a simple matter to control the movement of teeth with or without braces. It is not as simple as having someone take an impression and voila'.....instant orthodontics. Nothing could be further from the truth.
What are some of the advantages of Invisalign?
Invisalign is especially attractive for adults and teens who want to have a great smile, but will absolutely will not wear braces of any sort. Invisalign is a braceless system of moving teeth so no one can tell that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. Some advantages are that the aligners are removable so you can eat and drink what you want and brushing and flossing is easy during orthodontic treatment. Another advantage is comfort, since the aligners fit so closely to the teeth they are easy to get used to.
What are some disadvantages of Invisalign?
Invisalign is still somewhat limited in what it will do and what it will not do. Most movements of the front teeth can be accomplished with the Invisalign technique if the doctor is experienced, but there are certain tipping movements which it does not do accurately. It is moderately successful at certain bite corrections ( meaning how the back teeth fit). It is inadequate for treating impacted teeth. In certain cases, a better result would be achieved with a short course of braces. Dr. Newhart is well versed in several accelerated techniques.
How long does Invisalign treatment take to complete?
Multiple factors play into determining how long Invisalign treatment takes for each patient. Typically, it takes about six to sixteen months, but during that entire time, most people will not even notice that you are under treatment. Technological advancements continue to make treatment faster, easier and more comfortable for the patient.
Invisalign aligners are used to straighten your teeth gradually, not overnight, so be patient with the treatment. Remember that any discomfort you feel will be brief. On the other hand, your beautiful, healthy smile will last forever.
Do I need to wear a retainer after treatment?
An important part of maintaining the excellent results gained from Invisalign treatment is wearing a retainer once treatment is complete. Your last aligners will often serve as your retainer. Without retainers, your teeth would return to their crooked old ways. Some retainers can be put in permanently.
What does Invisalign treatment cost?
Our Invisalign fees start at $2995. Everyone who has come to our office for a free consultation has been able to afford to have Dr. Newhart treat them- without exception. Invisalign treatment cost varies for each individual, depending on the complexity of their orthodontic problem. Most people make monthly payments.
