Fixed Retainers
Occasionally Dr. Newhart will recommend fixed retainers for the front teeth. This type of retainer is attached to the backside of the incisors to maintain their position. Fixed retainers work very well, but they make it more difficult to maintain excellent oral hygiene. Each tooth must be flossed using super floss or a floss threader. This takes extra time and requires additional skill. For these reasons, fixed retainers are not recommended for the long term.
